It was quite adequate, but we do prefer a cooked breakfast when on tour as we are never certain where we will have lunch!! We stayed for one night in top floor accommodation which offered the best views of this stunning location. The rooms were clean, tidy and comfortable. There was also a well stocked mini bar and an adorable stuffed penguin you can purchase as a memory of your trip to Stanley. Dinner was at Hursey Seafood where we enjoyed Tasmanian lobster. Food was great and the service was good. Breakfast was at Moby Dicks and was fantastic. Excellent coffee. Unfortunately, on the morning we climbed the Nut (some by foot, some by cable car), there was quite a heavy fog which obscured the view out over the ocean. However, there is still a lovely walk around the top of this landmark with plenty of information to read and lots of wildlife to experience We also took in the Highfield Historic Site which is located high above Stanley. The restored home is beautifully lit up over night and is a wonderful landmark for the town. Well worth a visit, and the money of admission goes toward upkeep and further restoration work Undoubtedly, the highlight of our visit was watching the arrival of the penguins onto the beach at Kings Park. Undoubtedly, the highlight of our visit was watching the arrival of the penguins onto the beach at Kings Park. This attraction can be a bit hit or miss dependent on the cooperation of the penguins, but we were fortunate and treated to dozens of the creatures arriving at the beach around 9.00pm and entertaining us for over half an hour. I’ve just spent 7 days touring Tasmania and this was the best place I stayed in. It’s really worth paying the extra and getting a seaview spa room ..... read more although the “spa” bit is just a bath with those jets in it. The real jewel is the view from the verandah, which without exaggeration is stunning .. it was the loveliest of all my 6 hotel stops.
The reception staff were very welcoming and helpful. The room itself was large and thoughtfully furnished, with an excellent bathroom. The kingsize bed was very comfortable. And there was plenty of coffee, tea and sugar in the room, which made a nice change from the usual tight portion control.
Good strength wifi and plenty of parking. Go for room 18 or 19 if you have a choice.
I had dinner at the Stanley Hotel, which was one of the two best meals I had on the trip (the other was at The Jailhouse in Launceston).
A tip .. don’t leave it till the last minute to book .. do it at least the evening before.
